What kind of music will you play at my event?
The short answer is – whatever you want. We have access to thousands of songs from classical to today. In particular, we have most any popular song from 1960 to the present. We prefer to keep our music as “family friendly” as possible, using “clean” or “radio” versions rather than the album version if many people would find the content of the original objectionable.
What type and size of events do you do?
While we can work with you on any size event and type, we specialize in events with 500 or less guests. This would include weddings, corporate parties, benefits, school events, and birthday parties. We can even DJ events in private residences, such as weddings or birthday parties, and take up a small amount of space.
What type of equipment do you use?
We stick with top quality, brand name sound equipment such as Mackie, Bose, and Yamaha. Our lights are primarily from American DJ. More importantly, we have the ability to scale what we bring. So if you have a small event in your home, we will bring a small system with a minimal footprint that is visually unobtrusive. On the other hand, if you have a dance in a school gymnasium, we will bring enough power to give you the “thump” that you’re looking for. If you need two sound systems for your event (like one for the wedding outside and another for the reception inside) we can take care of that for you. We just need to know so we can quote a price accordingly.
How much do you charge?
Our motto is “Quality entertainment at an affordable price.” The price of your event is a function of many factors, including location and duration. Basically, our quote will consist of a base charge (representing the work to prepare for the event, set up, and break down) plus a per hour cost. If the event is outside of the Charlotte metro area, there may be a travel charge included. But please rest assured that we keep our costs extremely low so we can keep our prices extremely affordable. Your final quote will be inclusive of all charges.
Will you meet with me?
Every quote includes a pre-event meeting, preferably at the site where the event will be held, as long as the event is in the Charlotte metro area. Outside of the Charlotte area we may have to meet by conference call. Our philosophy is that thorough preparation and communication are absolutely essential to a successful event. Depending on where you are located, we may also be able to meet with you before we give you a quote.
What if I want both a band and a DJ at my event?
We can work with any band. However, we work with three bands where we can give you a very compelling “package” price. For more details please visit www.wonderlandcreative.com/music. You can see band summaries then follow the links to the bands’ individual sites. We can also offer violin and other acoustic instruments if you need them for your wedding, for example.
How do I know if you are available for a specific date?
You can check our schedule on this site. However, keep in mind that we do have more than one DJ and also that we quote on several events every week. We do not “lock in” a date with a quote, but after we receive a deposit and a signed contract.
Who are your DJs?
Our DJs are seasoned musicians who know and love music, know how to manage events, and are absolute professionals. Both have Masters degrees and are professional musicians as well as DJs. DJ Steve is a drummer who began playing music professionally at age 18 and has played every imaginable style of music. DJ George is a guitarist, bassist, and vocalist who has been featured on singles which have hit the beach music charts.
What’s the process from beginning to end?
1. The first phase is the “quote and selection” phase where we supply a quote and you select your DJ or other entertainment provider. This phase ends, if you select us, when we receive your deposit and signed contract, locking in the date and time.
2. The “planning phase” follows. We will send a document called a “DJ Sampler Playlist.” It is not a playlist but a sample of songs of different styles of music. You mark each song on the list as Yes, No, or Maybe. This will allow us to begin to build a proposed playlist. At this point you would need to tell us any songs you want played for a first dance or cake cutting at a wedding reception, for example.
3. On the day of the event we will need access to the venue, typically at least two hours before the first guest arrives. This ensures that the look and sound are “finished” in plenty of time. We will also want to have a conversation with the “point person” who is managing the event, can make decisions, and give us direction during the event. At this point the playlist has been finalized. While we can accommodate requests, we will need one person who can approve the requests first to ensure that you’re pleased with everything that is played.
4. Post-event we will ask for your feedback on the event itself as well as the pre-event activities. If you're willing we will also request a quote to be able to share with other prospective clients.
